About this role
The core differentiator of Navlyt is AI — and we are not talking about a chatbot wrapper. Our AI parses 200-page operations manuals and maps them to FAA/EASA/TC regulatory requirements. It monitors regulatory publications nightly and alerts operators to changes. It powers a streaming chat assistant that answers who is flying today and generate my audit report in seconds.
We are looking for an AI/LLM Engineer who wants to go deep on practical, production AI — not research. You will work on real problems that directly affect aviation safety and operator efficiency.
What you will do
- Own the document parsing pipeline: PDF extraction, section chunking, embedding generation, and gap analysis against regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain RAG pipelines using Pinecone for both operator documents and shared regulatory databases
- Design and implement function-calling tools for the AI operations assistant (get_compliance_status, get_crew_schedule, generate_audit_report, etc.)
- Optimize LLM prompts for accuracy, cost, and latency across GPT-4o and Claude models
- Build the regulatory change monitoring pipeline: scraping, classification, impact assessment, and operator notification
- Implement cost guardrails, caching strategies, and usage metering for AI features
- Work closely with the product team to translate compliance requirements into AI capabilities
What we are looking for
- 2 or more years of experience building production AI/LLM systems (not research or toy projects)
- Strong Python or TypeScript skills; comfortable working at both the API and infrastructure levels
- Experience with embedding models, vector databases, and RAG architecture
- Solid understanding of prompt engineering and evaluation for structured outputs
- Familiarity with OpenAI function calling / tool use patterns
Nice to have
- Experience with Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar vector DBs
- Experience parsing complex documents (PDFs, regulatory publications)
- Background in aviation, legal tech, healthcare, or other compliance-heavy industries
- Experience with Anthropic Claude API
- Experience building streaming LLM responses (SSE)
